USD220, 000.00 Funded by the United Nations Democracy Fund.

Overall Project Summary
The project aims at promoting the rights of women in political representation in Namibia by raising awareness of the importance of 50-50 gender representation at the regional and national level. It further intends to equip women with the necessary knowledge and skills to enable them to fully participate in the electoral process as candidates representing their political parties. The project also aims at creating an environment for political parties to adopt internal policies and legislative frameworks that are conscious of gender equality in nominating party leaders and representatives.

Project objective
The project aims to contribute to the goal of achieving the 50-50 gender representation of women and men in the political sphere and enhancing the effectiveness of female candidates as well as elected female parliamentarians.

Sustainable Development Goals
This project addresses the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) number 5 which is targeted towards gender equality. Gender inequality exists worldwide, depriving women and girls of their basic rights and opportunities. For policies and developmental programs to become sustainable, the planning, development and implementation phases should consider the experiences and views of both males and females.

Target Groups
Women, Political Parties leadership, Women Parliamentarians, and the general public.

Expected Outcomes

  1. Increased awareness and support by citizens and political parties to achieve 50-50 gender equality in political representation.
  2. Enhanced capacity of women to become candidates and to get elected in the 2019 National Assembly Elections and the 2020 Regional Council election
  3. Improved performance of female elected representatives.
