Message from EU
Dear Mrs De Klerk,
When reflecting on a year past it is important to also evaluate whether ones activities will have a sustainable impact on the targeted community or society.
We at the EU Delegation to Namibia can confidently state that Women’s Action for Development (WAD) and the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung’s (KAS) national awareness raising campaign “My rights as a Woman and Namibian citizen” will make a positive and lasting impact.
This is because the campaign involves Namibians from all walks of life and aims to contribute to a gender sensitive society where human rights are protected, and women enjoy equal opportunities without fear of discrimination, marginalization or harassment. Very importantly, it also encourages women to claim their rights and to report the violations of these.
This project, supported through the European Instrument for Democracy and Human Rights (EIDHR) with a financial contribution of N$3 million demonstrates the EU’s commitment to promoting women’s rights and gender equality worldwide.
We believe that gender equality is not only a fundamental right but also an imperative for economic growth and social cohesion. Our Action Plan on Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment in Development for the period 2010- 2015, aims to accelerate progress towards the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals, particularly MDG 3 on gender equality and empowerment and MDG5 on improving maternal health. We look forward to witnessing and experiencing the positive outcomes of this historic campaign and wish WAD and KAS all the best in achieving its objectives.
Yours sincerely,
